Why does poqui ask for location, microphone and notifications?
Three permissions, each for one thing. poqui asks for them once, on one screen after the short tour, and works without any of them.
- Location, to know which story to tell.
- Used only when you press “What's here?” or opt into the morning story. Your coordinates compose the story and are not stored on our servers (see the privacy policy). With Precise Location off, stories are told at neighbourhood level.
- Microphone, to ask poqui a question out loud.
- Only for Ask poqui, and only while you hold the microphone button. Speech is transcribed by iOS, on your phone where the language supports it, and only the text of your question is sent to poqui. You can always type instead.
- Notifications, for the morning story.
- One notification a day, at the hour you choose, with a story from your everyday area. Nothing else, ever. No streaks, no nudges.
How do I switch a permission off?
Permissions are yours, and iOS keeps the switches. Open Settings on your iPhone, scroll to poqui, and turn off Location, Microphone or Notifications. Inside the app, Settings › Permissions shows the same three with a shortcut to that screen. With location off, type a place into Where are you? on the home screen and poqui tells that place's story instead.
How do I put poqui on the Action Button?
The Action Button is the one above the volume buttons on iPhone 15 Pro and every iPhone since. Apple only lets you assign it yourself; it takes about thirty seconds.
- Open Settings on your iPhone, then Action Button.
- Swipe across the options until you reach Shortcut.
- Tap Choose a Shortcut…, pick poqui, then What's here?
- Press and hold the Action Button. poqui opens and starts telling the story of where you are.
My iPhone has no Action Button. What do I do?
Use Back Tap: two taps on the back of the phone. It works on iPhone 8 and later.
- Open Settings › Accessibility › Touch › Back Tap.
- Tap Double Tap, scroll to the Shortcuts section, and choose What's here?
- If it is not listed, open the Shortcuts app first, tap +, search for poqui, add What's here? and tap Done; it then appears in the Back Tap list.
Back Tap is less reliable through a thick case. The in-app guide under Settings shows the same steps.
I said “Not now” to location, or turned it off. Can I still use poqui?
Yes. Type a place into the Where are you? field on the home screen and poqui tells that place's story instead. To let poqui find you again, open Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › poqui and choose While Using the App.
A story said something wrong.
Stories are written from public sources, mostly Wikipedia, and every story has a Report an error action in the player. Tell us what was wrong; we read every report and fix the prompt or the sources. Legends are told as legends, not as facts.
Plus: restoring and cancelling
- Restore a purchase: open poqui › Settings › Restore purchases, signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with.
- Cancel Plus: subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open Settings on your iPhone › your name › Subscriptions › poqui. Cancelling keeps Plus until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds: Apple handles them at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Deleting my data
Your history and postcards live only on your phone: deleting the app deletes them. Our server keeps only counters and, for 60 days, the list of stories your anonymous ID has heard; write to hello@poqui.app with your Support ID (Settings › Access) to have them erased. See the privacy policy.
